                                          Peer Pressure

   Your with you friends and you all get together to go shopping , go eat , and just have  fun.

A couple of cuties approach you and your friends and one of them wants to talk to you. You’re a little skeptical about the whole “ meeting new people thing” , but you always give it a try because you end up making great friends. You and your companion have been conversing tensily now , and you have lots of things in common and the chemistry between the two of you was really great. You then exchange numbers , and continue on the with your friends. You start to conversate about the situation and also discuss others stores that you plan on shopping at. All of your friends and you decide to go to your favorite gucci store and pick up a new belt and some flip flops. You browse the store until you find what you’ve been looking for and before you and before going to the register you check to make sure you’ve got enough money to pay for the things. When you realize that you don’t have enough money , and neither did you friends to help pay for the things , you start to put everything back until your friends tell you to just walk out the store with them. At first , you refuse. You didn’t want to do it because you knew it was wrong and that there could be deep consequences behind getting caught. Then your friends encourage you on doing it really “sneaky” so you couldn’t get caught . being so pressured to do the dirt , you steal the belt and flip flops and walk out the store. You think you get away easily  because you didn’t get caught leaving on sight with the items , but two sighting police officers saw you and your friends suspiciously leaving the store and they go over to stop you and investigate the weird activity. The officer asks to check the bag and at first you start to stutter because you are afraid but you hand it to him and he sees the stolen items. The officers escort you and your friends back to the store to ask if the item were purchased and when they found out that they weren’t , they took them in for stealing.

   Hey im taliah , the short story above was an example of peer pressure. This could relate for teens of all ages.

What does peer pressure mean? Peer pressure means influence from members of one’s peer group. In the story i mentioned how the reader had met a new person , at first they were skeptical , but then they gave in and allowed themselves to be social amongst others.  This benefited the reader because now the reader had made a great new friend. that was an example of positive peer pressure. Like addition , positive peer pressure will always benefit you.  When i gave the example of the reader stealing because of their friends telling them to , that was an example of negative peer pressure.

    Now that you understand the difference between positive and negative peer pressure , you have to understand that peer pressure is determined differently by each and every single person , even when a person is often persuaded into doing something. Good or bad its up to this person to decide if they’re going to let their friends pressure them.

After helping you understand a little more on what peer pressure is , how do you think a person could act on it ?  

  Well , whenever you end up in a peer pressure altercation good or bad , there are things you can do before taking immediate actions. Whenever in this situation you should use humor. Some people are really good at deflecting attention from themselves or their actions by using humor. Have you noticed those people ? a quick witted one liner can take the pressure off the current conversation without offending anyone. Or like any other situation , you should alway think it through and be true to yourself before making any bad choices. Although peer pressure isn’t always bad , it's what you let your peers make it. Choose what's best for you in order to benefit rather than do something you didn't want to in the beginning.
